Crushed leg. Injured at the Portsmouth Steel Plant.  Temp on admission 101.8, pulse 106.  Treatment quinine…dressing changed each day.  Patient gradually improved left hospital the 24th day. Discharged March 21, 1907.

#316.  Mr. M. E. Burk.  Dr. S. S. H alderman.  Residence city, Washington Hotel. Admitted March 12, 1907.  Diagnosis Medical treatment (as written). Discharged March 13, 1907.

#317.  Mrs. Charles Taylor.  Dr. E. M. Foster. Residence Portsmouth, Ohio.  Admitted March 15, 1907.  Was prepared for operation March 16 10:50 anaesthetized by Dr. L. G. Lock. Operated by Dr. E. M. Foster, assisted by Dr. Harry Schirrman. Abdominal incision made, Salfingo oophorectomy (removal of ovary). Patient rallied well …no nausea, made an uneventful recovery.  Went home the 14th day. Discharged March 29, 1907.

#318. Mr. Clarence Cisna. Dr. J. B. Jordan. Residence Portsmouth, Ohio.  Admitted March 17, 1907. Typhoid Fever. Temp. 103, pulse 120…fever gradually reduced to normal and below. Patient made an uninterrupted recovery. Discharged on 23 day. Discharged April 8, 1907.

#319. Mr. Green Kinner. Dr. Jos. S. Rardin. Residence Buchanon, Kentucky.  Typhoid fever. Temp on admission 104.4, pulse 130 cold sponge when temp above 102…gradually reduced to normal. Patient went home on 24th day. Discharged April 8, 1907.  (Extractor notation: This is possibly Green Kinner wife Susan Ross.  Green Kinner lived until 1980 buried in Ross Moore Cem., Lawrence County, Kentucky.)

#320.  Mr. R. E. Hauser.  Dr’s. Halderman & Berndt. Residence Portsmouth, Ohio. Admitted March 23, 1907. Engineer hurt in a wreck. Badly burned and scalded about the head, hands and body. Compound comminuted fracture of left leg between knee and ankle. After entering hospital wounds dressed. Patient grew rapidly weaker. Died 2:15 P. M.

#321.  Mr. Mike Friel. Dr. Fulton. Residence Portsmouth, Ohio.  Admitted March 23, 1907.  Temp. 103, pulse 110 on admission. (Diagnosis not cited).  Discharged April 17, 1907.

#322.  Mr. J. E. Bevins.  Dr. S. S. Halderman.  Residence not cited.  Admitted March 25, 1907.  Fireman injured by falling from train at Kenova (WV). Badly bruised about the body. Temp 103.8, pulse 88. Given Calomel in broken doses. Patient improved went home on ninth day.  Discharged April 10, 1907. (Many entries list calomel which is a mercury based purgative and was used to kill bacteria.  Early records show it used for George Washington just prior to his death.  It was still listed as a medicine in the 1960’s before widely accepted as a poison.)

#323. Mr. Melvin Jarrels. Dr. S. S. Halderman. Residence Freestone, Ohio. Admitted March 27, 1907. Section man watching track at Freestone, struck by passing train. Ear and head cut and fracture of bone. Stitches removed April 2nd. Patient went home April 3rd, 1907.

#324.  Mr. Arthur Stewart. Dr. F. H. Williams.  Residence McDermott, Ohio. Admitted March 27, 1907.  Discharged May 1, 1907.

#325.  Mr. John H. Legg. Dr. S.S. Halderman. Residence Gyandotte, West Virginia. Admitted April 6, 1907. Fireman, who was burned result of derail and turning over of engine. He was badly burned about the body and legs. Discharged July 10, 1907.

#326.  Mrs. Fanny Feigley. Dr. Foster. Residence 1819 Mound Street, Portsmouth, Ohio. Admitted April 7, 1907. Prepared for operation April 9. Anaesthetized by Dr. G. Lock, operated by Dr. Foster and Schirrman.  Abdominal incision made. Returned to room in good condition. Went home improved on 17th day.  Discharged April 24, 1907.

#327. Mr. John Baird. Dr. S. S. Halderman.  Residence H 18  E. 12th St., Portsmouth, Ohio.  Admitted May 9, 1907. Anaesthetized by Dr. P. J. Kline. Operated by Dr. Halderman, assisted by Dr. Berndt. Left limb amputated below knee. Small scalp wound. Suffering internal injuries. Died May 10, 1907.

#338.  Mr. Harvey .B Curry. Dr. S. S. Halderman. Residence Manchester, Ohio.  Admitted July 15, 1907. Private, soldier Company G, 7th Regt. Received a small flesh wound in left side, discharged improved. (Extractor notation: Dr. S. S. Halderman’s son Dr. Henri Gorath Halderman was a Lt. and surgeon in the 7th.

#341. Mrs. Florence Crowe. Dr. J. B. Rardin. Residence Lucasville, Ohio.  Admitted July 22, 1907. Prepared for operation July 23. Taken to operating room 8:30 A. M. Anaesthetized by Dr. J. F. Fitch, operated by Dr.’s Rardin and S. S. Halderman. A complete abdominal hysterectomy. Removed her to her room 9:46 in good condition. Discharged August 22, 1907.

#346. Mrs. Ella Musser. Dr. S. S. Halderman. Residence city.  Admitted August 4, 1907. Typhoid fever. Temp 102.2, pulse 120. Nourishment every 3 hours, cold sponge when temp above 102. Discharged September 15, 1907.

#347.  Mrs. Bryan Pyles. Dr. S. S. Halderman. Residence city.  Brakeman jmped from freight train crushed shoulder and had internal injuries. Had hemorrhage died in 20 minutes after coming to hospital.

#348. Mr. G. W. Taylor.  Dr. A. Berndt. Residence Earlytown, Ohio.  Admitted 11 A. M. August 13, 1907. N&W rwy. Section man was struck by passing train had back injuries. Went home 7 P. M. Discharged August 13, 1907.

#349. Mr. William Knight. Dr. Harry Shirrmann. Residence Portsmouth, Ohio.  Admitted August 24, 1907. Typhoid Fever. Temp 102, pulse 106. Went home 23 days much improved. Discharged Sept. 15, 1907.

#350.  Mr. Alexander Gent Ellis. Dr. S. S. Halderman. Residence Portsmouth, Ohio. Admitted August 26, 1907. August 27 had toe amputated by Dr. S. S. Halderman. Went home in p. m. Discharged August 27, 1907.

#351. Alfred Norberry. Dr. S. S. Halderman. Residence Columbus, Ohio. Admitted September 15, 1907 when found along track at Davis station 5 A. M. by a south bound train crew. Had right arm and leg crushed. The foot entirely cut off at ankle bought to hospital at 6:30 A. M. Given stimulants…operation room 2, P. M. arm amputated at elbow. Leg amputated above the knee. Patient rested good until 11 P. M. had convulsions and died 12 P. M.

#352. Mrs. William Knight. Dr. Harry Shirrmann. Residence city. Admitted Sept. 19, 1907.Prepared for operation September 20, 10:20 A. M. Anaesthetized by Dr. R. O. Le Baron. Operated by Dr. Shirrmann, assisted by Dr.’s Loche and J. B. Jordan. Abdominal incision made appendix removed and right ovary removed. Patient taken to her room at 11:40 in good condition. Went home the fourteenth day much improved.

#353. Mr. Henry C. Noxtell. Dr. D. A. Berndt. Residence Otway, Ohio.  Admitted September 22, 1907. 7 P. M. Was thrown from street car. Had back of head cut. Stitch taken and back bruised. Was able to leave hospital. Discharged September 23, 1907.

M.  Appendicitis abscess.  Had general peritonitis. Patient rallied after operation…did not retain nourishment. Dr.’s Rardin and Berndt assisted in operation. Died December 13, 3:40 A. M.

General tuberculosis of omentum …firm adhesions of omentum and intestines…diseased omentum and broke up some adhesions …patient returned to room in good condition. Discharged January 6, 1908.

#366.  Chas. W. Palmer. Dr. S. S. H alderman.  Residence Newport, Ohio. Admitted December 14, 1907. Injured at Waverly, Ohio on b ridge no. 1114. Had right leg caught by wire cable and muscles torn lose from bone about the knee and above. Was removed to his home at Newport, Ohio.

#367. Mrs. William Dorman. Dr. J. W. Fitch.  Residence Clay township. Admitted December 16, 1907. Operated by Dr. Fitch assisted by Dr.’s Halderman, Rardin and Allard.  Attached to this entry by glue is a form that has been filled out by Dr. Fitch.  Patients name Mrs. William Dorman, married. Family history good. Menses normal…two children…miscarriages one. Previous treatments curettage 7 years ago… …lost flesh and strength. She almost lost her life from a uterine hemorrhage 15 days ago. Diagnosis uterine fibro-myomata. Operation complete hysterectomy. Ether, time 2 hours….rallied nicely…patient was not given food of any kind for the first 48 hours …treatment after included …whiskey…normal salt solution. Discharged 27, January 1908.
