#174. January 12, 1905. Nathaniel R. Wilson, admitted 11 A. M. to (room) no. 4-. Dr. Berndt. Residence McDermott, Ohio.  Widower, age 68 born in  U. S. A. …obstruction of bowels. Much exhausted and suffering severe pain…prepared for operation, anesthetized by Dr. Osborn and operated by Dr. Berndt. Adhesions broken up and intestines punctured…sutured and abdomen closed…returned to room in pain…at 12 salts, turpentine and glycerin …rested quiet by sleeping most of time…delirious, vomiting…9 P. M. calomel…morphine…quieter…respiration changed at 1 P. M. pt. died 2 P. M. Died January 14, 1905. In hospital two days.

#175. January 19, 1905. Mrs. Emma Murry admitted to room 2 11 A. M. Dr. S. S. Halderman. Residence 19 Finley Street, Portsmouth, Ohio. Married age 65. Colored.  Has known growth in r. breast for about 1 year.  … prepared for operation. Urinalysis showed large quantity of sugar and patient considered inoperable at present. 2 days in hospital. Discharged Jan. 21, 1905.

#176. January 24, 1905.  Charles MacIntyre, admitted 10 A. M. Dr. S. S. Halderman.  Residence Lumber Bridge, North Carolina. Single age 27. Telegraph operator.  Shot in arm in telegraph station, Dingess, West Virginia. Gun shot wound.  …temp. 101, very little pain. Wound in good condition. Patient slept and ate well.  Discharged Jan. 29 in P. M. 5 days in hospital. Discharged Jan. 29, 1905.

#177. January 26, 1905.  Mr. Max Davis admitted 1:30 P. M. Dr. S. S. Halderman. Residence St. Paul, Kentucky. See entry #168.  Syneresis of right thumb. Complains of constant and severe pain in thumb. Can’t think or talk or anything else. Is apprehensive. Does not sleep, eats well.  Massaged thumb …Discharged form hospital but will remain in town and under physician observation. In hospital 2 days.  Discharged January 28.

#178. January 27, 1905. William E. Connell, admitted 5 A. M. Dr. S. S. Halderman. Residence 940 Spring Street, Columbus, Ohio. Married, age 29.  Brakeman, N&W R.R. burns of face, neck, hands, buttocks and thighs.  Burns cleansed and dressed…On following day burns redressed…allowed to go home. No rise of temp or pulse…appetite good. In hospital 2 days. Discharged Jan. 28, 1905.

#179. January 28, 1905. W. O. Mayfield, admitted 9 A. M.  Resides Roanoke, Virginia.  Single, age 24, Protestant.  Engine over hauler on N&W. R. R. Arm caught between brake shoe and wheel while repairing engine.  …cleansed…d\dressed with carbolized Vaseline and put in splint and patient put to bed…discharged on 12th day. Discharged February 9.

#180. February 7.  Mrs. Sarah Eveline Johnson admitted …Dr. S. S. Halderman.  Widow, age 46 born in Tennessee. Protestant.  Housewife.  Has been ill about eighteen months.  In November 1903 had severe hemorrhages from uterus. In May 1904 hemorrhage from lungs. Last July first felt pain in abdomen which has increased in severity until she had no rest except under opiates…general diet supplemental with liquid …milk broth and butter milk…daily bath…carcinoma of uterus. Discharged March 9, 1905. Taken home in ambulance.  

#181. February 8, 1905. Mr. George Batterson, admitted 6 P. M. room No. 6.  Dr. S. S. Halderman. Resides 18 Gallia Street, Portsmouth, Ohio.  Pt. put to bed and left hand and arm rubbed …arm and hand some swollen and very painful. Severe pain on movement. Cast applied on following day. Patient up and about room.  Arm and hand comfortable. Swelling less. General diet…discharged on 12th day…February 20th.

#182. February 9, 1905.  Alvin Flemming, admitted 9 A. M. #3. Dr. S. S. Halderman. Residence 913 Canal avenue, city.  Fell in uric(?) table pit on N&W lands. Contusions of head and shoulders. Gave warm bath. Liquid diet. Kept in bed. Discharged on third day, recovered. Discharged February 11.

#183. February 17, 1905.  William Warris (as spelled both in index of ledger and in his record) 
admitted 8 P. M. room no. 3.  Dr. S.S. Halderman. Resides 184 East 12th street, city.  Single, age 24 from Wisconsin. Protestant, shoe work.  Had been feeling ill for about one month. Worked until three days before entering hospital.  Appendiscal (did writer mean appendicular?) abscess. Temp. 102.8…anaesthetized and Dr. Smith to O. R. 9 A. M. operated by Dr. Halderman assisted by Dr. Rardin.  Returned to room in good condition…kept on liquid diet until 10th day…uninterrupted recovery. Patient discharged on 31st day, wound nearly closed and general condition excellent. Discharged March 20th, 1905.

#184. February 19, 1905.  Ruth Merriman admitted 4 P. M. Room No. 5.  Dr. Rardin. Resides 615 Glover Street.  age 5, female.  Hip joint disease.  Usual preparation for operation.  Anesthetized by Dr. Smith. Operated by Dr. Rardin. Returned from O. R. 9:30. Good quality. Persistent vomiting. …4th day plaster cast and wounds redressed…Sent home in ambulance.  Discharged March 11, 1905.

#185. February 22, 1905.  Ethel Wingo entered in room no. 6 about 3 P. M. Dr. Rardin.  Resides South Portsmouth. Age 17, single. Protestant. No occupation.  Pelvic abscess. Temp. 102.8. Usual preparation for abd. Section. Anesthetized by Dr. Kline and operated by Dr. Rardin.   …abscess drained…returned to room in fairly good condition…fourth day chill temp. 105, pulse 160, resp. 34…Dismissed …to home in ambulance. Discharged March 11, 1905 (medication listed after dismissal.)

#186. March 2, 1905.  J. A. Carter admitted 9 A. M. Dr. Flint, Kline and Dr. Rardin.  Residence Salem, Virginia.  Age 35, single. Protestant.   Brakeman on N&W rwy. Three fingers of left hand crushed at ends. General anesthetic given by Dr. Kline. Amputation of each first joint…dressing by Dr. Rardin. Put in No. 4 until fully recovered and discharged at 2 P. M. March 2.

#187. March 2, 1905. Mrs. Mary Farrell. Admitted 6 P. M. in room 4. Dr. S. S. Halderman.    Matawan,Lasso Co., Va. (The only Matawan is in Mingo County, West Virginia) Age 43. Protestant. Married. Diagnosis (left blank).  To be treated at home. 5:40 A. M. discharged March 6th.

#190, March 14, 1905.  Mrs. J. S. Rardin admitted at 12 midnight room no. 1. Dr.’s Rickett and Rardin. Residence 108 Gallia Street, city. Married age 41. Lacerated cervix…hemorrhoids. Operation. Repair of cervix and perineum.  …5th day small abscess on right side lanced on 7th day.  Daily sponge bath…light diet…discharged April 1st. (This is Dr. Rardin’s wife Carrie.)

#191, March 10, 1905. Mr. Ernest Kite admitted 3 P. M. Room no. 5 Dr. S. S. Halderman  residence 528 Vinton Ave., city.  Boiler inspector. While at work fell from ladder sustaining injuries of head and right shoulder. Contusion of shoulder, concussion of brain. Strabismus, double vision, eye lid swollen…shoulder rubbed with liniment. Much improved on 3d.  Left hospital on own March 19th.

#188. March 10, 1905.  Mr. George Zeisler admitted 3 P. M. room no. 2. Dr. S.S. Halderman. Married.  Age (struck out).  anesthetized by Dr. Kline and operated by Dr.  S.S.Halderman at 9 A. M. Appendix removed. Returned to room in good condition. Very nauseated …48 hours…very much jaundiced on 4th and 5th days, responded quickly to treatment…uneventful recovery and left on 18th day perfectly healed. Discharged March 28, 1905.

#189. March 11, 1905.  Mr. Albert Shutz admitted 6 P. M. room no. 6. Dr. Kline.  Residence               317 Court Street, city.  Age 30, single. Protestant. Secretary and treasurer for Harbison and Walker Co. Typhoid Fever.  Temp…101.8…highest temp 104.3…April 5th temp, pulse, resp. normal and remained so until April 12 relapse.  May 18th temp again normal.  On May 30th fever returne3d continuing until June 12.  From this date recovery…regaining strength…discharged 3:30 A. M. July 21.

#192. March 18, 1905. Mrs. Mary Dick admitted 3 P. M. room no. 3.  Dr. Robe and Dr. Hull of Cincinnati.  Residence 24 East 2nd street, city.  Age 27, married. Protestant. Has two children. double pyosalpinx tumor (cystic ) of right ovary size of small orange.  Anesthetized by Dr. Kline. Operated by Dr. Hull assisted by Dr.s’ Hull and Robe…on 8th day 4 stitches removed from abd. Temp 102 pulse 124…9th day temp, pulse and resp. normal. Abd. Wound healed by primary union.  Dischared April 8.

#193. March 22, 1905.  Mr. James Jarrell admitted 3 P. M. no. 5 room. Dr. Flint Kline and Dr. S. S. Halderman.  Residence Dunlow, Va. West. (As written Dunlow is in Wayne County, West Virginia).  Single age 21.  Night watch on N&W R. R. Shot in right leg by party unknown.  March 21 shot entering inside of knee. Dr.s Halderman and Kline made examination.  Ball was not located…kept in bed…kept open …wound healed and swelling disappeared and patient discharged April 6th 2 P. M. walking with aid of crutches.

#194. March 27, 1905. Mr. Henry Wright admitted 10:30 A. M. Room 5. Dr. Edwards. Residence corner 3d and Gay Street, city.  Widower age 65. U. S. A. Paralysis of right side. Sponge bath semi -weekly. Liquid diet for 48 hours gradually increased to general diet.   (long list of dosage and medications) May 5th down stairs and out on porch. Appetite good. Sleeps well. May 14th walked down town. Discharged May 22nd.

#195, March 28, 1905. Mrs. Bertha Gilmore admitted 5 P. M. room No. 2. Dr. Cook. Residence Vanceburg, Kentucky. Married, age 33.  Neurasthenia… Hot pack to spine…cervix treated and vagina packed every third day by Dr. Cook.  Kept in bed except for …exercise.  At time of discharge patient stronger, less inclined to cry… medication every hour when awake. Remedy not given. Discharged April 12, 1905.

#196. March 29, ,1905. Mrs. Emma Murry admitted 7 P. M. to anesthesiology room. Dr. S. S. Halderman. Residence 916 Finley St., city.  Married, age 65. Colored. Has known of growth in right breast for about one year. …prepared for operation Jan 19th…large quantities of sugar and patient was dismissed for treatment at home.  March 29th urinalysis showed …sugar. Usual preparation for amputation of breast.  Anesthetized by Dr. Smith and operated by Dr. S. S. Halderman March 30th…profound shock lasting 36 hours…3d day removed drainage – redressed on 10th day wound healed. On 12th day fluid in lower back of breast wound opened and drained.  Discharged April 11th.

#197. April 1, 1905.  Mr. Joseph Von Derembse admitted 5 P. M. room no. 3.  Dr. Fitch.  Residence corner Union and Front Street. Married. Grocer.  Inflammatory rheumatism in right arm and hand. Very delirious. Did not respond to remedies to produce quiet and sleep…he was disturbing the patients to greatly and discharged him. Ambulance to home to be treated there (underlined twice).  Discharged April 2nd.

#198. April 3rd. Mrs. Agatha Mutter admitted 3 P. M. room 3. Dr. Berndt. Residence 38 West 7th Street, city. German. Age 65. Widow. Gull stones.  Usual preparation for operation. Anesthetized by Dr. Allard and operated by Dr. Berndt. 368 calculi removed from gall bladder…excellent results…On 18th day drainage ceased, wound completely healed. Patient up and about and discharged on 24th day of operation. In hospital 28 days. Discharged May 1, 1905.

#199. April 10, 1905. Mrs. Marie Caden admitted to room no. 1 – 5 P. M. Dr. Robe.  Residence 168 4th Street, city. Widow. U.S.A. age 55.  Gall stones. Usual preparation for operation. Taken to O.R. 9 A. M. April 13th. Anesthetized by Dr. Smith. Operated by Dr. Robe assisted by Dr. Flint Kline.  Gall bladder opened …patient returned to room in good condition…wound dressed daily…general diet. Patient in excellent condition. Would healed …discharged May 8, 1905.

#200. May 1, 1905. Clyde L. Parcell admitted to room 5, 10 A. M. Dr. Flint Kline.  Boarding at N&W R. R. terminals. Single, 22 years old.  Some disagreement with a man while both were in a saloon on night of April 24th, after coming to blows. Patient was stabbed in back with slight cut on left elbow. Taken to Dr. Kline’s office and wounds dressed…went to boarding house. May 1st brought to hospital. Put to bed and given sponge bath. Wound dressed daily…patient advised to remain 48 hours longer.  May 7th, discharged.

#201. May 3, 1905.  Mr. Thomas Owens admitted to O. R. 4 P. M. Dr. Kline. Car repairer works at N&W terminals. Age 33. Cut by adz while at work. Incised wound left foot. Wound cleansed and sutured and bandaged and patient discharged. May 3rd discharged.

#202. May 4, 1905.  Mrs. Chas. Newman admitted to room 2 10 A. M. Dr. Fitch.  Residence 222 West 2nd Street, city. Married age 23. Been ill about        tendays. Typhoid Fever. Temperature entering 104.6, pulse     108,resp. 28. Nails blue…May 13…patient sleeping well circulation improved, takes nutrition well…solid food June 5th. Uninterrupted recovery and discharged June 21st.

#203. May 4, 1905.  Mrs. George Washington Williams admitted to room 4 11 A. M. 615 Chillicothe St., City. Married. Pelvic abscess.  Prepared for operation and anesthetized by Dr. Kline and operated by Dr. Berndt. May 6th abscess found …tubes removed on tenth day. Patient discharged 18th day after operation.  Discharged May 24th.

#204. May 15, 1905.  Leslie Dement admitted 11 P. M. to anesthesiology room. Dr. Gault and Dr. Rardin. Residence 326 Gallia St., city.  U.S. A. Male – 15 – playing ball struck at head with bat. Skull fractured.  Incision …scalp …wound stitched…quiet and slept until 3 A. M. Weakened condition. Uninterrupted recovery and discharged healed in good condition on fifth day. Discharged May 20, 1905.

#205. May 23, 1905.  Samuel Thompson entered 7 P. M. to anesthesiology room.  Dr. S. S. Halderman. Residence Round Bottom, West Virginia. Age 15. U.S.A. Protestant. Laborer in N&W         works. Attempted to board morning train at 11:30. Thrown under – laceration of scalp and right leg cut off above ankle. When admitted to hospital pulse very weak…considerable hemorrhage, tourniquet applied.  Anesthetized by Dr. Kline and leg amputated below knee...uninterrupted recovery. Walked well with aid of crutches. Discharged June 8th.

#206. May 26, 1905.  Mrs. Effie Lockard admitted 8 P. M. room no. 1. Dr. Williams and Dr. Ricketts. 174 East Fourth Street, city. Married. 23 years of age.  …Preparation for abdominal section. Anesthetized by Dr. Kline and taken to O. R. 9:15 operated by Dr. Ricketts and Dr. Williams. (large list of mediations and dosage) …very quiet except when disturbed…died at 2:30 A. M. May 29, 1905.

#207. June 1, 1905. Miss Eunice Vernon admitted in P. M. Dr. S. S. Halderman. Residence Wellston, Ohio.  Single, 42. Training school.  Pronounced (unreadable)- headache…temp. ranging from 98.4 to 102.  Weak nerves.  Went home for rest and treatment.

#208. June 6, 1905.  Merigo Mangiantini admitted to O. R. 3 P. M. Dr.’s Kline and Kline. Residence Earlytown.  Italian, age 21, single.  Injured while extracting ice at N&W terminals. Second finger of r. hand crushed. Anesthetized and finger amputated below first joint.  Recovered…readily and walked away from hospital. Discharged 5 P. M.

#209. June 6, 1905.  Jacob Wiley Miller admitted to room 5 9:30 P. M. Dr. S.S. Halderman. Residence Durham, North Carolina. Colored, 21, single. Laborer on N&W tracks. Injured in collision at Dingess, West Virginia.  Compound fracture of right thigh. Simple fracture of left thigh.  Patient anesthetized and r. leg amputated at 9:15 June 7th. Fracture of l. leg reduced and put in splint.  Patient very weak…died at 10:30A. M. June 7, 1905.

#210. June 8, 1905.  Miss Louise Crothers admitted 11 A. M. Room 3. Dr. Robe.  Residence Locust Grove. Single, age 35.  Been ill four years and in bed most of time.  June 29 anesthetized by Dr. Kline.  Stomach examined …patient very depressed, suspicious and disinclined to exert herself. July 7 sat in chair 6 minutes. Quite cheerful. July 8 very depressed. Jul y 9 sat in chair. July 14 sat in chair.   More cheerful and up nearly all day July 24 walked about room.  Aug 3 down on porch. Aug. 7 went for drive. Aug 9 went for drive.  Aug. 10 menses and considerable depression remained in bed until she went home. Discharged August 15, 1905.

#211. June 20, 1905. Miss Mary A. Bishop admitted to room 1. Dr. Flint Kline.  Residence 179 West 2nd street, city.  Single age 41.  Had typhoid fever 18804. Has not been feeling well 2 weeks. Typhoid fever…solid food on 18th day…uninterrupted recovery. Discharged on 32nd day. Discharged July 22, 1905.

#212. June 23, 1905.  Joseph Zehener admitted 8 P. M. room no. 4. Dr. S. S. Halderman. Fourth St., city. Brakeman in N&W yards. Fell from moving car in yard and was run over by train crushing off both legs below knee, injuring shoulder and head.  Pulse very weak. Patient in great distress. Gave strychnine hypodermically.  Reaction very slight.  Quiet after 11 P. M. Died 2:20 A. M.

#213. June 28, 1905.  Margaret Jeffries admitted 2 P. M. room 2.  Dr. S. S. Halderman. Residence New Boston.  Female, age 2 years.  Attack of acute indigestion (mother said) in March had been losing flesh ever since. Had a fall on head about 3 weeks previous to entering hospital. Had been ill and unconscious about 2 weeks. …Died June 30. Cerebral meningitis.

#214. June 30th, 1905.  William Amlin admitted 7 P. M. room 5. Dr. Kline and Kline.  Residence Carey’s Run.  Age 38, white, married.  Teamster. While assisting in …building…wagon broke down and…was thrown on horse he was riding. Caught under horse and left leg broken in two places above knee. One fracture compound. Entire body and leg bruised. Fracture reduced and leg put in splint.  Returned to infirmary on July 5th.  Discharged July 5th, 1905.

#215. July 7, 1905. Max Caskey admitted to anesthesiology room 7 A. M. Dr. S. S. Halderman. Residence 65 East 8th Street, city. Age 11 years. Hand injured six years ago. First finger stiff and undeveloped.  Amputated at knuckle…patient discharged when recovered from anesthetic.  Discharged July 7th.

#216. July 11, 1905.  Mr. Mathiott admitted P. M. room 2. Dr. S. S. Halderman. Residence 517 Campbell Ave., city.  Appendicitis. Prepared for surgery. Anesthetized July 12. Dr. Rardin operated by Dr.  Halderman. Appendectomy.  Wound healed. Appetite good. Discharged 14th day after operation. July 26, 1905.
#217. July 17, 1905. Anton Geisler admitted P. M. room 4. Dr. S. S. Halderman. Residence 2nd Street, city.  Hernia. Anesthetized by Dr. Rardin and operated by S. S. Halderman. Herniotomy .  July 18th (several blank lines) July 31st anesthetized by Dr. Rardin and operated by S. S. H. Rapid recovery of wounds healed readily. Appetite good. Slept well. General condition good. Discharged August 16, 1905.

#218. July 22, 1905.  Mr. Sailor admitted P. M. room 6. Dr. Johnson. Working in hotel city.  Taken ill while out of city. Dysentery.  Liquid…brandy ad lib…whiskey every 6 hours. Kept in bed. Sponge bath…massage abdomen and back daily…Discharged fully August 15, 1905.

#219. July 26, 1905.  Mrs. Eda Baggs admitted to room 1. Dr. Berndt. Residence 130 W. Fourth St., city. Married, age 22, 2 children. Right kidney removed. Anesthetized by Dr. Kline. Operated by Dr. Hall assisted by Dr. Berndt.  Returned from O. R. 10:30 very restless.  July 29th 1:15 A. M. morph…wound dressed daily by Dr. Brendt…patient out of bed on 14th day. Wound still open slightly…discharged on 21st day after operation. Appetite poor but sleeping well. Walking about and down stairs.  Discharged August 15, 1905.

#220. July 31, 1905.  Mrs. Margaret Jennings admitted room 2. Dr. Robe and Dr. Hall. Residence 228 West Fourth St., city. Married, age 45. Ill and (unreadable) for about two months. August 2nd Anesthetized by (left blank) operated by Dr. Hall.  Uterus curetted and packed returned to room in good condition…August 8th temp 100.4…Aug. 9…considerable pain and great distention…Aug. 12, 1905 sent home in ambulance at patients request. In hospital 12 days.

#221. August 2, 1905. Mrs. Alvin McKinniss admitted room 6. Dr. Allard. Residence Hamden Junction. Married, age 39 (the extractor believes this family lived in Vinton county, Ohio).  Laceration of perineum. Anesthetized by Dr. Fitch operation by Dr. Allard…no relief of headache…discharged on 16th day operation cured.  In hospital 17 days. Discharged August 19, 1905.

#222. August 3, 1905.  Mrs. Robert McAlum admitted room 4. Dr. Allard. Residence 68 E. 8th St., City. Prepared for operation. Anesthetized by Dr. Fitch…operated by Dr. Allard. Section of rib removed. Severe pain on return of consciousness.  Morph…considerable pain in back and between shoulders, slight hacking cough…wound healed and patient discharged after removal of stitches on 10th day.  Discharged August 13, 1905.

#223. August 16, 1905. William Yinger admitted room 5 in P. M. Dr. S. S. Halderman. Residence 78 East Gallia St., city. Single, age 26. Fireman on N&W.  Pipe burst when 15 miles from Williamson, West Virginia August 15th A. M.  Scalded about face, chest, back, arms and legs.  Burns had been dressed with olive oil previous to entering hospital…uninterrupted recovery discharged on 17th day cured. Discharged September 4, 1905.

#224. August 22, 1905. Harvey Moorman entered room 3 P. M.  Dr. S. S. Halderman.  Residence Rush town, Ohio. Farmer, age 28. Widower. Was severely injured in N&W Rwy. Wreak years ago. Had had now severe pain and some swelling in left knee from three breaks. …put to bed…compresses applied to l. knee. Aug. 24th knee lanced…Vaseline daily…discharged on 8th day with patient walking on crutches. Discharged Aug. 30, 1905.

#225. August 24, 1905.  Mrs. Nancy Moore admitted to room 1 P. M. Dr. Berndt. Residence 417 East 11th Street, City.  Married, age 28. Has one child, 3 years old.     Laceration of cervix. Trachelectomopexy and curettage.  Dr. Allard gave anesthetic (chloroform) Dr. Rardin assisted Dr. Berndt. Patient rallied nicely …uninterrupted recovery…dismissed on 14th day after operation. Discharged Sept. 19, 1905.

#226. September 14, 1905.  Mrs. Levi Cook admitted in A. M. to room 1. Dr. Fitch. Corner Chillicothe & 9th St., Portsmouth. Married, age 43. Fibroid tumor.  Removal of uterus, ovaries and tubes…by Dr. Hall September 16th.  Returned to room in good condition…out of bed on 21st day of operation. Discharged October 10, 1905. In hospital 26 days.

#227. September 16, 1905.  Jerry Moore. Dr’s Kline, Kline and Halderman. Resides Portsmouth, Ohio. Widower, age 41.  L. foot injured on jumping from morning train. Anesthetized by Dr.’s Kline and  (blank) put in splint by Dr’s F. Kline and Halderman. Sept. 17 was again anesthetized and portion of broken bone removed.  Wound sutured foot put in splint. Dressed daily.  September 24 th foot and leg put in plaster cast. Patient very comfortable and about on crutches. Discharged Sept, 26th.

#228. September 19, 1905.  Miss Jennie Prague (Austrian). Admitted in A. M. Room 6. Dr. Williams. Residence 301 West 40th Street, New York City. Dancer in Devils Austrian Theatrical Co. R. in good condition….on 4th day temp 104, pulse 146, resp 40. Anesthetized and wound opened…within 48 hours temp, pulse & resp. normal. Wound kept open and irrigated …November 13th sat in chair. November 14 walked and discharged November 16th, 1905.   Resume health good – wound healed.

#231. October 25, 1905.  Mr. Baucus, Chief of Police. Admitted at 9:30 P. M., room 6. Dr’s Smith and Williams. Residence 4th Street, Portsmouth, Ohio.  Dr. Baldine fo Columbus operated at 1 A. M. Perineal section. Returned to room in good condition 1:45. In good condition.  No nausea…On 14th day edges of wound brought together and sutured.  …general condition good. Discharged and taken home in ambulance on 17th day. Discharged November 11th.

Married, age 32.  Prepared for operation in A. M. Nov. 10th. Anesthetized by Dr. and operated by Dr. Flint Kline.  Laceration of cervix repaired...curetted, hemorrhoids ligated. Returned to room in good condition. Severe pain and great excitement. Morph…no nausea, slept …passed a good night…Patient very excitable and complains of pain in all parts of body and extremities…night as restlessness becomes much great…discharged and returned in ambulance to home. Discharged November 19, 1905.

#233. November 9, 1905. Miss Ruth Kelly entered at 5 P. M. Room 3. Dr. S.S. Halderman. Residence 432 East 11th Street, city. Single, age 26. Prepared for operation. Anesthetized by Dr. Rardin. Dilated and curetted by Dr. S.S. Halderman.  Returned to room in good condition. Temp, pulse & Resp. 99.2, 99, 76. No nausea. Very Little pain…Discharged don 9th day. Discharged November 18, 1905.

#234. November 20, 1905.  Mrs. Fink entered in Room 1 at 2 P. M. Dr. S.S. Halderman. Residence 1221 High Street, city. Prepared for operation. Anesthetized by Dr. Rardin. Operated by Dr. S. S. Halderman….curetted …packed. Returned to room in good condition. Very little nausea, some pain.  Packing removed at end of 24 hours…discharged on 10th day. Temp, pulse, resp. normal. Appetite good, sleeps well.  Discharged November 30, 1905.

#235. November 21, 1905.  Mrs. John Neil (the city directory states that John Neill works for Neil Stove Manufacturing Company) entered in room 2, 11 A. M. Dr. Moore and Dr. Rupert Hall. Residence 62 West 3rd Street, city. Married, age 57.  Carcinoma of uterus, hemorrhoids…November 23rd prepared for operation. Anesthetized by Dr. Kline.  Uterus curetted and packed…by Dr. Rufus Hall...suffered severe pain…morph…Discharged at end of week and taken to home in ambulance. 
Appetite good. Pulse of better quality…discharged November 28th, 1905.

#236. November 21, 1905.  Mr. John Goad entered in room 6 8 P. M. Resides city. Age 63, married. Officer on police force. (Diagnosis not cited) Anesthetized by Dr. Williams. Operated by Dr. S. S. Halderman. At 8 A. M. returned to room 6 in good condition.  10 A. M. no nausea, no pain…discharged on 14th day after operation. Wound perfectly healed. Drainage fine. Skin nearly normal color…appetite good, slept well.  Discharged December 6, 1905.

#237. November 30, 1905.  Forrest Callahan admitted room 4 – 3 A. M. Dr. S.S. Halderman.  Residence Ashland, Kentucky.  Brakeman on N&W Rway. Age 26.  Last fingers on right hand crushed while underneath cars…anesthetized administered by Dr. Henri Halderman at 8 A. M. Fingers amputated by Dr. S. S. Halderman. Patient recovered readily from anesthesia…at 1 P. M. dressed and left hospital.. No nausea, weak, some pain. Advised to remain to see surgeon but did not. Discharged November 30th, 1905.

#238. December 16, 1905. Rawley Morehead admitted to hospital 4:30 A. M. Dr. S.S. Halderman. Residence Pulaski City, Virginia. Single, age 23.  Fireman on N&W Railroad. Left elbow dislocated. Injury to jaw …bruises on hip. Anesthetized by Dr. Flint Kline and dislocated joint put in splint. Head bandaged. No nausea after chloroform. Cup of coffee at noon same day. Discharged Dec. 23, 1905. G. A. R.

#239. December 17, 1905.  Nelson Hormell admitted to hospital 1:30 P. M. Drs Foster and Schirrman. Residence Dennison, Ohio. Widower (age not cited).  Boiler maker. When admitted was suffering intense pain…abdomen…very greatly distended. Vomiting. Prepared for operation. At 3:15 P. M. anesthetized by Dr. Williams and operated on by Dr.’s  Foster and Schirrman. Found gall bladder ruptured and portion sloughed away. Stones were found. General septic condition of intestines. Patient rallied after leaving operating room and was conscious at time of death at 7:45 P. M. In hospital six hours. Died Dec. 17, 1905. G.A. R.

#240. December 23, 1905.  Miss Anna Gustin admitted to hospital. Dr. Halderman. Residence Ironton, Ohio. Single age 25.  Employed as chamber maid at Hotel Washington, Portsmouth.  Was ill four days previous to entrance to hospital.  Anesthetized by Dr. Henri Halderman. Sphincter muscle dilated and rectal ulcers touched with silver nitrate.  Ulcers were also found on uterus. No nausea after operation. Patient given liquid diet for twelve hours. In bed three days, leaving hospital feeling much stronger. Discharged Dec. 27, 1905.

#241. December 28,1905.  Miss Dora Hard. Dr. J.S. Rardin. Admitted to hospital Residence 120 Gallia St., Portsmouth, Ohio. Single, age 53.  Had suffered intense pain in region of gall bladder, six weeks previous to entrance to hospital. These attacks recurring frequently and patient confined to bed. Admitted on Thursday; was prepared for operation Friday and operated upon by Dr. Rardin, assisted by Dr’s Moore and Halderman, Saturday morning.  Gall bladder drained. No stones. Nodules on liver…Patient condition much improved…no pain. Eating solid food. Able to walk about room Was taken home in cab. Jan 20, 1906, 7 P. M.
